New Mobility Foundation

Launch of the New Mobility Foundation

The New Mobility Foundation (NMF) was founded in fall 2016 with the mission of bringing mobility and transport to the most vulnerable citizens of our community, particularly the elderly, disabled, refugees, unemployed and low incomes. The New Mobility Foundation will focus on initiatives that utilize ICT’s and innovation as the way to tackle the long standing issue of ‘transport poverty’ and halt its side effects such as social isolation, loss of job opportunities and physical health. The Major Alliance helped to co-ordinate the interests of both the RAI and Noaber Foundation which have both committed to provide funds, experience and direction to help facilitate the vision of the New Mobility Foundation.  The board is made up by Mr. Jan Peter Balkenende (Chair), Steven Van Eijck (M.A.), Geert Jan Baan (Noaber) and Olaf de Bruijn (RAI).

While initially focusing on vulnerable citizens within the Netherlands, the foundation will also maintain an international outlook. Moreover, two of the UN Sustainable Development Goals have been recognised as being examples of the work that the New Mobility Foundation aims to achieve. These involve the following two sub-goals:

  • 11.2 “Provide safe, affordable, accessible and sustainable transport systems for all, notably vulnerable citizens."
  • 3.6 “By 2020, halve the number of global deaths and injuries from road traffic accidents."

2017 will see the launch of projects funded by the New Mobility Foundation.
